I want to talk about street cats, because if you are an animal lover, and in particular cats lover, you probably take care of the street cats also.
Outside our home there are a few permanent cats we take of. They already became part of the family. We give them food and water and take care of their medical condition. We even named them (you can find pictures in my photo album.
Not all people are animal lovers who love seeing a lot of cats outside their house. There was even one time on the news a story about a woman who loves cats who used to feed all the cats near her house. The neighbors complained and sued her and eventually she had to pay a fine about 250$.
I got mad when I heard that story, it’s not human to make her pay for such a good thing she did. We all should keep helping these poor cats who didn’t get lucky enough to be adopted.
So here are some things you can do to help your street cats:
- Fill a bowl of water that is big enough and that all cats will be able to drink from and place it outside your house. On summer times when in very hot check from time to time that the water hadn’t vaporized.
- Buy food, even simple food, and fill in a few plates (when a cat is hungry he doesn’t let any other cat near his plate!). Check from time to time to see that there are no ants or flies.
- It’s very important to sterilize and castrate the cats. I know some of you might be against it but I think it’s important to do so. One of the cats we take care of, (street cat), before we sterilized her, suffered a lot from the male cats on her "heat" times. She was all boozed and bitten. We hardly ever saw her because she was hiding all the time.
- Pay attention and make sure their health condition is good and that there are no worrying signs. If you feel something is unusual (the cat’s behavior isn’t right), take the cat to the vet for an examination.
